Tips for Tile Grout Repair

Grout in the tiles may be as a result of tear and wear, or even as a result of a week subfloor. Once a tile grout starts to cracks then it is always advised to repair it before there is damage to the surrounding tiles. Tools used in the repair of grout include the following, Tape measure, Grout, white vinegar, paper towels craft sticks and a soft cloth

The first step involves the measurement of the grout lines on the floor. This is done to know the suitable grout that should be used. Grout lines which are wider than one-eighth of an inch usually need sanded grout while those grout line less than one-eighth needs unsanded or acrylic latex grout. To choose the right tile grout stain, find tips here.

Use of a grout saw should then remove the damaged grout. Care should be taken while moving the grout saw to avoid damaging of other tiles. Cold water should be sprayed to the areas where the grout has been removed, and this will remove all the grout that was freed by the grout saw. Excess water in the grout lines should be removed. During the process of repairing the grout chips of the grout may fly out of the cracks as you use the grout saw. Protective eyewear should be worn during this work.

The new grout that has been purchased always has a set of direction for adding the correct amount of water to the grout which was selected. A disposable container should be used for mixing the grout and water. When in a proper consistency the grout should be held together in a ball.

A grout float should then be used to fill the seams completely. A craft stick should be used to smooth the joints and to make sure the grout is at the same level. The surface of the surrounding tile should then be cleaned by using a clean cloth and care should be taken to avoid smearing of grout onto the adjoining tiles. The grout should then be allowed to dry for a certain period.

The surrounding surface should also be cleaned with a soft cloth, and if it does not remove the haze, then it should be mixed with vinegar and water. A grout caulk should then be applied using a smaller paintbrush and also allowed to dry.

Once the tiles have dried they should be polished using a soft towel and sometimes the grout may cause the tile to lose their shine but if cleaned the shine severally on the tiles should return
